Lent is a season of repentance in the Christian Church commemorating Christ’s fasting in the wilderness. Many Christians traditionally give up something during Lent, as a sacrifice intended to focus less on self and more on one’s relationship with God. Lent is a season of renewal. Time with God is a time for quiet discernment, contemplation, and reflection. In the spirit of this wonderful season, I hope the following prayer, modeled after the “Our Father” Prayer, might help all of us engage in quiet communion throughout ongoing, turbulent days.

A Prayer for Lent in 2021

Our Father, we seek Your presence,
hearts and minds alike;
Your will, not ours,
help us be true,
for in deed and thought we struggle.
Guide us each day to live Your grace,
and recognize more than ourselves.
Awaken us to choose what’s right over wrong;
and love our neighbors as ourselves,
that we may all share peace and hope.

Amen.
