Don’t Be Beat By The Heat!

Warmer weather is just around the corner for Northeast Ohio and now is the time to get your central air conditioning system ready.
Most homes in Greater Cleveland use as split system. Split systems are sealed and pressurized and use circulating refrigerant to create the cooling for your home. Keeping your system running properly starts with you the homeowner taking care of some basic items and then relying on a trusted tech for complex electrical issues and refrigerant repairs.
Starting with the outside condensing unit;
Trim Back any shrubs and bushes that may restrict airflow. You should have a 2-foot diameter around the unit
After disconnecting the power to the unit complete the following;
Clean out any leaves or garbage from inside the unit.
Clean the outside condensing unit coils.
Make sure that no fins on the unit are bent. If they are, use a fin comb and straighten them out.
Check the lines where they enter the home to ensure they are properly sealed.
Now head inside to the furnace unit and check the following (again with the power off);
Lubricate the blower motor as scheduled in the owner’s manual.
Clean the fan blades on the furnace blower wheel.
Clean the drain pan, drain pipe and water traps.
Change the furnace/air filter.
Make sure all registers are clear and clean.
Reprogram the thermostat for air conditioning based on your lifestyle. This is also a good time to change the batteries in your thermostat if it is not hardwired.
Many insurance companies provide and option to purchase equipment breakdown insurance. However, wear and tear are typically not covered by this coverage. Preparing your air conditioning equipment prior to the season could prevent a covered or uncovered insurance loss but honestly who wants to be sitting around the house on that first 90-degree day without air conditioning!
