Happy 35^th Anniversary to the Insurance Board!

Culture: That may seem a strange title for a blog post from an insurance agent, but with the importance of culture in our role servicing Religious Institutions throughout Northern Ohio, I believe it an important point to discuss.

One of our partners, the United Church Insurance Associations (dba Insurance Board), is celebrating its 35th anniversary of serving churches throughout the country. What started as a way to provide insurance for the United Church of Christ during a time when Insurance companies did not want to insure churches has grown into so much more. Our agency started working with the Insurance Board about 25 years ago. Little did I know that this would create a cultural shift within our agency as to what we are as an insurance agency. Today, Religious Institutions are the mainstay of our commercial insurance division. Our producers spend the bulk of their time working with them to meet the insurance and risk management objectives of our customers/partners.

For the last 6+ years, the Insurance Board has been led by Timothy Harris who has created a culture that has nurtured its growth to more than 4,500 churches throughout the country. The team he developed has helped our agency bring the best insurance product available to an increasing number of churches throughout Northeast Ohio. The culture and shared values of the Insurance Board have benefitted our customers, our agency and each team member at Richey-Barrett.

As we continue to assist religious institutions in an ever-changing world it seems incongruous that we need to continue to discuss coverage for sexual misconduct, discriminatory practices, or active shooters. However, The Insurance Board has been ahead of the curve in creating products that a vibrant church community needs today.

Congratulations to the Insurance Board for 35 years of keeping abreast of a constantly changing marketplace and continuing its original mission of bringing the best possible insurance product to the United Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Presbyterian Church USA, Alliance of Baptists, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and Reformed Church in America.
