February’s Insurance Careers Month Celebrates Diverse Interests.

Despite being the shortest month, February commemorates many causes whether that’s Black History, Oral Hygiene Awareness, Library Lover’s, Heart Health, or even Insurance Careers.

In its 5th year, Insurance Careers Month is both a celebration of the insurance industry and an opportunity to showcase to younger generations why they should explore the diverse career opportunities offered by the industry.

The insurance job sector, as a major U.S. employer, provides 2.7 million jobs. As technology continues to rapidly expand and the current workforce is expected to retire over the next 10-20 years, the need for new faces in the industry continues to grow. There are nearly 400,000 open positions in insurance right now.

The need for younger generations also brings the need for innovation and diverse employees. The insurance world attracts a myriad of degrees and backgrounds. These jobs include claims adjusters, actuaries, underwriters, public relations, human resources, marketing, cyber-security, data science, and financial analysts, making it a diverse field capable of attracting all types of workers.

The insurance industry plays a substantial role in not only helping to keep families, businesses, non-profits, communities, and our government safe but also in creating substantial economic growth. As insurance covers more than just your car or your home, it has led to economic growth through its involvement in mass production, highway systems, aviation, information technology, artificial intelligence, and data collection. Because insurance collects continuous data, studies risk, and develops statistics, the work being done in the insurance world is used to govern national laws, decrease consumer risk, and help us to become a safer, more sustainable world.

The need for insurance will not disappear and neither will its importance. In a world without insurance, we are putting ourselves and our communities at risk. The profession is diverse in its interests, in its employees, and in their abilities and talents, which is why we are partaking in the celebration of Insurance Careers Month.
