Learn how your family can enjoy staying at home through the remaining 2020 holiday season.12_7

Read a special 2020 holiday poem about staying home during extraordinary COVID-19 times.

‘Twas three weeks before New Year’s, when all through the house
Computers were clicking by touch of a mouse.
The family was busy doing its best,
In hopes of surviving all snug in the nest.
The children were scheduled to log in online;
Schooling and learning were remote by design.
As COVID-19 raged all over the map,
Holiday plans settled in for a long nap.
When reality stared us straight in the face,
We sprang into action and stayed home in place.
Away to the window Dad called us to see–
One of the great gifts of changeability.
A perfect half moon cut into the night sky,
In three weeks or so will be a full moon pie!
And what to your wondering eyes might appear?
Aries and Orion beam this time of year!
With the trace of a finger aimed in the air,
You’re free to adventure and go anywhere.
More rapid than hearts full of memories rise;
The joy of imagination and surprise.
“Now, Time! now, Space! now Sun, Moon, and Earth be true!
Our bearings! Our seasons! Our home through and through!
To ev’ry creature! To all, these do belong!
Now take care! take care! take care all, and be strong!”
As late fall grinds the days to a dreary dark,
When winter takes over with nary a spark;
Go warm up your spirits and dress for outside,
With conscience, put worry and dismay aside.
Summon your senses and your mind to a view;
Look, listen, linger, and imagine anew.
The whipping of wind and cracking of branches
Somewhere far away the snow avalanches.
Down on the ground stray leaves scuttle here and there;
You can feel their dryness through the cold, crisp air.
From limb to limb young squirrels scamper and chase;
Relish their pattern of impromptu embrace.
A sole blue jay swoops by and then takes up perch,
Is he curious, or about to go search?
Still as silence, then darts in and out of sight;
Is he on a mission, or prepping for flight?
Right here you stand, a witness of time and place;
Ebb and flow marvel, at home, in ev’ry space.
In the blink of an eye the sound of a bark,
Switches your thoughts over to familiar hark.
Light from the window signals evening routine,
You’re at home and aglow by what you’ve just seen.
Life is a cycle that moves along each day,
Sometimes it’s moment-to-moment that holds sway.
The days of 2020 are winding down;
Yet COVID-19 is still going to town.
Help is on the way, and we can each take part;
It’s no time to put the horse before the cart.
Pause the parties and stay home when you’re able,
Holiday safely at your own kitchen table.
As the New Year cycles in, we wish you well
May good health and happiness in each home dwell!
